The chapter meeting will open at 9:30 a.m. EDT with microphones turned on for socializing. The business meeting will begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the presentation.

Kathy Kaldis will present her lecture: Opa! It’s All Greek to Me! Researching Your Greek Ancestors, showcasing the wealth of communities, tools, and collections useful when conducting Greek genealogical research.

Opa! It is a marvelous time to be Greek! The Greek Genealogical Odyssey starts here. Conducting Greek genealogy can be challenging even for those who can speak and read Greek. Many first- and second-generation Greek immigrants do not even know their grandparents’ names or even the exact village where their parents originated. Attendees will learn the first steps to conducting Greek research and what resources are available here in America, which will unlock records in Greece. The lecture will be helpful for both individuals who emigrated to the United States post World War II and for those who have ancestors who emigrated before World War II.

Kathleen Kaldis is a professional genealogist and lecturer from Massachusetts and is known as The Ancestor Finder. She holds a Certificate in Genealogical Research from Boston University and has completed many advanced level genealogical institute courses. Kathleen is currently participating in the ProGen Study Group.

Kathleen’s husband is a first-generation Greek-American, whose parents were born on the Greek peninsula of Peloponnese pre World War II and immigrated to Montreal during the late 1950s. Eventually, the family moved to Massachusetts and, along with other family members, became one of the founding families of the Greek-American community on Cape Cod. Kathleen will share her experiences and some of the excellent resources, along with anecdotes of her findings.
